Alberta Aphasia Camp 2020

*A message from Andrea Ruelling and Esther Kim, Co-Directors Alberta Aphasia Camp*

We hope this email finds you healthy and happy even during this time of uncertainty.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, there are a variety of restrictions which make hosting an in-person aphasia camp challenging. We have made the decision, along with our funding partner March of Dimes Canada, that Alberta Aphasia Camp 2020 will move forward, but that we will gather together on-line.

We will meet September 18 – 20, 2020 with the following schedule:

  • Friday, September 18 @ 7:00 – 8:30 PM

  • Saturday, September 19 @ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Sunday, September 20 @ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

The registration form is attached and can also be found on our website (uab.ca/AphasiaCamp). Attendance costs $30 per person and is open to anyone with aphasia and their family/friends. Since we are on-line, geography will not be a barrier, and we are excited for the cross-country connections that this opportunity will afford our participants!

We want to ensure we feel a sense of togetherness even while we are apart. Each person who registers for camp will receive a camper kit with:

  • A 2020 camp t-shirt

  • Materials for all weekend activities

  • SWAG

  • And more!

Participants will need to download the Zoom software onto their computer, laptop, tablet or phone. We will send out aphasia-friendly instructions and are happy to do one-on-one tutorials and/or test calls with anyone in need of this prior to camp.

Our virtual camp will have some of the same activities that we have hosted in the past, with a variety of new ones which translate well to an online medium.

We are happy to answer any questions, especially for anyone who is hesitant to try this new platform. Feel free to pass along the information to clients and colleagues!
